Celebrating Success at MissionCX!
We are beyond thrilled to share that Nicci Rigby, our incredible Marketing and Communications Manager at MissionCX, has been selected as a winning finalist for Best Marketeer of the Year in the prestigious 2024 in-Cumbria Business Awards, sponsored by 32 West.
This achievement truly reflects Nicci’s dedication, creativity, and passion for both the nuclear industry and Cumbria as a whole. From leading our award-winning work experience programme —the limited edition branding she created is now being adopted in the school corridors of partners like Energy Coast UTC—to serving as a committee member and communications lead for the Nuclear Institute Cumbria Branch, Nicci goes above and beyond every day.
She brings energy, innovation, and a true commitment to her role and makes it very evident that she loves her job, whether collaborating with industry giants like Sellafield Ltd, Royal Navy, and BAE Systems, or delivering visionary brand strategies that are helping us engage the next generation.
We couldn’t be prouder of Nicci and all her hard work. 🎉 This recognition is well deserved, and we’re excited to see her shine at the in-Cumbria Business Awards this November!
Check out Nicci’s blog below where she talks about her journey, juggling creativity with technical know-how, and the amazing people she gets to work with every day at MissionCX. 📖👇
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be a finalist for the Best Marketeer of the Year at the in-Cumbria Business Awards! This recognition means so much, but it’s not just mine—it’s for the entire MissionCX team. Every success we achieve is the result of our collective passion, creativity, and hard work. There really is no ‘I’ in team, and I’m so grateful to work with such an incredible group of people who inspire me every day!” Nicci Rigby, Marketing & Communications Manager, MissionCX
Nicci Rigby on her job as marketing manager at MissionCX
I never really talk about what I do. I’m too busy focusing on a job that I absolutely love! I rarely have (make) the time to reflect. So what’s a day in the life of a Marketing Communications Manager at MissionCX and the Nuclear Institute Cumbria Branch like? Is it just a scene from Bridget Jones, when Hugh Grant claims all Bridget does is ‘flounce around in a see through top writing press releases’?
Being a Marketing Communications Manager is not just a job; it’s an adventure,
One moment I’m leading initiatives like our Work Experience Week, collaborating with industry giants such as Sellafield Ltd, Royal Navy and BAE Systems. We’re not just discussing work experience; we’re tackling the bigger picture—how to fill our industry’s skills gap. I’m very passionate about this. One of those frustrating things that you just cant solve overnight!
The next moment, I’m diving deep into our branding. Making sure every detail is perfect, yet different, sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode its so full of ideas!
Then I’m onto developing our website… then talking to our commissioning teams about projects… it gets very technical and I have to be able to switch from being creative to understanding detailed commissioning projects, so that I can write about them better than the people actually delivering the work. That blows my mind. how intelligent these guys are and what they do blows me way!
One of the best parts of my job is the diversity of people I interact with daily. From managing directors to curious 14-year-olds, nuclear scientists to hands-on technicians, the variety keeps me on my toes. You need to wear many hats—sometimes all at once—and know exactly when to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit of your MD Ben Slater and push the boundaries, and when to rein it back in. Often my head is off down the road and my boss Joanne Slater will be like … oi come back (in the nicest possible way)!
I am so very lucky to do something that I love! With people I respect and thoroughly enjoy working with and it was all a big fat accident… I wanted to go into the Police Force! I did a degree in Criminology and was set to do my Masters, I worked in a marketing company part time throughout my degree and they persuaded me to make the switch.
I put in a lot of effort to everything I do because I love it. I think we should all share more about our day to day work, you often hear things like ‘well what does he actually do!’ ‘Does she do anything?’ Yes I do… I do sometimes flounce around writing press releases but I tend to avoid the see through blouse! And the best part…. I have Cumbria and this view as my playground! 👇
