West Coast Cumbria’s marathon-a-day man Gary McKee pledged to run a marathon every single day for 365 days, in memory of his late father. Gary McKee from Cleator Moor Cumbria began his challenge on 1 January 2022. Since setting off on his challenge, he has run through rain, wind and snow, gone through over 25 pairs of trainers, burnt over 1.3 million calories, and has so far raised over £200k for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support. When Gary’s challenge is successfully completed, he will have run more than 9,500 miles. He fits in the daily runs around his work shifts at the Sellafield nuclear site. Gary is now so famous locally that Ennerdale Craft Brewery has launched a Marathon Man IPA, with all proceeds going towards the causes he supports.
