🎉 Celebrating Grant Gilmour’s 9 Incredible Years with MissionCX!🎉

MissionCX GG 2 Years (1)

This week we celebrate an extraordinary milestone for Grant Gilmour, Senior Management Consultant and Non-Executive Director at MissionCX, who has been with us for an incredible 9 years!

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Grant to reflect on his incredible journey with MissionCX and to gain his insights on the nuclear industry, leadership, and his personal experiences. Grant is not only an invaluable member of our team but also a cornerstone of our organisation, embodying the values, expertise, and leadership that define MissionCX.

With over three decades of experience in nuclear management, Grant has developed a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is unparalleled in the industry. From leading multi-million-pound projects to overseeing complex nuclear facilities and managing high-stakes decommissioning activities, his leadership has consistently driven innovation and ensured safety at every step.

As a Non-Executive Director and Senior Management Consultant, Grant’s contributions go far beyond formal roles. He provides invaluable hands-on guidance and mentorship to our team, offering a level of expertise that strengthens every aspect of our work. His strong ties with MissionCX include mentoring Ben Slater, our Managing Director, during his time at Sellafield. Grant’s wisdom, dedication, and leadership are deeply woven into the fabric of our organisation.

Grant’s Thoughts and Insights

What do you see as the biggest challenges and opportunities in nuclear commissioning today?
Getting the client to understand the meaning and requirements of commissioning and its inclusion in programmes.

How do you think MissionCX has impacted the industry over the last decade?
By being honest, sincere, and delivering what we say.

What advice would you give to young professionals entering the nuclear field?
The nuclear industry is future-proof! Keep the faith!

What do you believe is the key to maintaining safety and innovation in highly regulated industries?
By evaluating risks and opportunities: mitigate risks and exploit opportunities.

If you could implement one major change in the global nuclear sector, what would it be and why?
An open and honest appraisal of global nuclear power and its value to society.

If you weren’t in the nuclear industry, what career path would you have chosen?
I did choose to join Birmingham Police as a graduate entrant but was persuaded to give my profession a go. If in earlier times I’d thought I was good enough to go to university, I would have tried to qualify as a vet.

What’s your favourite memory from your time at MissionCX?
In the early days of MissionCX, sitting with Ben and Craig in my conservatory in St Bees developing plans and strategies for the new company. Also, seeing Craig’s excitement at the variety of birds on the feeders!

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Sir Winston Churchill. Showing leadership in times of extreme adversity, learning from previous mistakes, dealing with disappointment, and having to deal with his own ‘Black dogs’.

What’s your go-to activity for relaxing after a busy week?
When I was younger and in ‘full flow,’ it was windsurfing and spending time with my family. Nowadays, I’m already fulfilling that desire by exploring the Far East when visiting my daughters in Hong Kong.

If you could have anyone’s job at MissionCX for the day, whose would it be and why?
Stick with my own job, having a helicopter view and being there when needed.

As we celebrate this milestone, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to Grant for everything he has done for MissionCX over the past nine years. His unwavering dedication, wealth of knowledge, and inspiring leadership have been instrumental in shaping our organisation’s success. Grant’s ability to mentor, guide, and bring out the best in those around him is a testament to his incredible character. Thank you, Grant, for your invaluable contributions and for being such a vital part of the MissionCX journey—we are truly fortunate to have you on our team.
